Joseph Stiles (1758-1838) was a rice planter who moved to Savannah, Georgia from Bermuda around 1769. He married his first wife, Catherine Clay in 1793 and his second wife, Margaret Vernon Adams in 1828. He was the father of Benjamin Edward Stiles (1794-1855). The family of Samuel Stiles (ca. 1737-1808) moved to Georgia around 1758. During the American Revolution, the Stiles secured gun powder and ammunition from Bermuda for the colonists. Samuel Stiles' son, Joseph Stiles (1758-1838), had a son named Benjamin Edward Stiles (1794-1855). Hugh Greville Stiles (1887-1955) was the son of William Henry Stiles IV and a direct descendant of Samuel Stiles.
